| JessG's Full Review: Epson Stylus Photo 870 InkJet Printer |
So, I got the scanner I needed. Next, a color printer. As any Epinions.com member knows, research is your best weapon for a good purchase. Here are the reasons why I bought the Epson Stylus Photo 870 printer:
Many reviews (from different computer magazines, online magazines, other users) agreed that the color printouts you get using Epson's photo paper are very impressive.
The lifetime of your printout will go from 24-26 years on the Epson Matte paper!!! Even regular photos have a limited life.
You can use roll paper to print banners, panoramas and signs. It comes with the roller and sample paper.
It's energy star compliant.
Resolutions go up to 1440 by 720 dpi.
Whisper-quiet operation
Comes with Epson Software Film Factory, and Adobe PhotoDeluxe.
Of course, I also ran into a couple of things that I didn't like. Here they are:
The black and white text printouts aren't as good as with the laser printers. But they are not terrible. They're 'okay.' If you have a laser printer, keep it for your regular black and white text printouts.
The 870, 875DC, and 1270 models are being affected by a "color-shift" problem. But I learned that it affects one of its papers (the Premium Glossy Photo Paper) caused by high ozone levels. Epson has stopped circulating its Premium Glossy Photo Paper and it's working on a new one due this month. Read Davi's Em article "Epson Ink Fades Too Fast On Some Paper." for more information. To get the longer life and avoid this problem, use the Matte paper. If you want to use the glossy type paper, they have another one that isn't the PREMIUM glossy. And if you live in one of those affected areas and want to use the Premium Glossy Photo paper, cover it with glass or another kind of photo cover.
After seeing the WONDERFUL prints it makes, I was so glad I decided to purchase this printer. It's affordable, the quality printouts you get are very high and it has the Epson name. I am VERY satisfied and very happy with this printer. I highly recommend it. :)
