Only ONE week after buying a digital camera, I started looking into a Printer! I like my Kodak DC-280 so much, I just had to buy a printer for it. I started looking, did a little research and narrowed down my choices to:
Epson Stylus Photo 2000
Epson Stylus Photo 870
HP Photosmart p1100xi
Having owned both an epson (740) and an HP (4l) before, I know what brands I liked. But I must admit I favor my HP over my epson.
The epson felt flimsy and there were always these annoying horzontal lines in the pictures from the print head.
Epson Stylus Photo 2000-
I've heard lots of good reviews for this one, especially about Epson's new printing technology.... but as soon as I saw the price for it 899, I Xed it out.
$899?? cmon now im not a professional!
Epson Stylus Photo 1270-
Didn't read much about this printer, costs around 499
I pretty much had my mind made up about Epson
(their scanners are great though!)
Just for epson lovers:
*** UPDATE ***
This only costs 389 now- and its quite popular
big problems with the usb it seems though
HP Photosmart p1100xi
I also looked at the HP Photosmart p1000 and the Hp Photosmart p1100.
(I think HP's discontinuing the 1100)
The only difference between the XI and the 1100 is the software. The 1100xi comes with the adobe photodeluxe software (which i also got with the Kodak DC280)
The only difference between 1000 and 1100 is the 1100 comes with a duplexer which allows for front and back printing- which i thought was worth the extra $.
This was the cheapest of the bunch- i found this at 449 at Onvia w/ free shipping!
The thing I was worried about was- did i really want to spend the money for a PHOTO ONLY printer???? Fortunately, all the reviews i read, said that this printer was good enough for everyday use- since it uses the same print engine as the 970 (which is only 332!) I figured that this printer combined with my laser would make an unbeatable combo!
When I got the printer I started printing immediately! I was stunned by the quality- it looks like it came out of a photomat! Of course i used the special photo glossy paper samples that were supplied! It so good in fact, that i fooled everybody in my family! I printed out a 8x10 and a 4x6 photo (in the photo tray!) It was better than I ever imagined it would be! There's this cool slot for printing directly from the camera's memory card-
Good: saves some battery life from transfering it to the comp.
Bad: My LCD doesn't reflect the what the actual photo's gonna look like
(usually looks better, but i dont want to waste good paper!)
No Preview!
I read some reviews that said "I can just take my printer with me... i dont' need a computer..." I just want to respond "Shutup!" That printer is pretty damn big! (Anyway there's a camera coming out that can print photos too- by olympus and polaroid!)
I just got it yesterday- so i haven't really gotten to use it. I'll keep this updated- so far so good :)
