I bought this cheap scanner to do Optical Character Recognition (O.C.R.).
It came with a scanner driver called "MiraScan 3.20" and an OCR software package called "Textbridge Classic 2.0." The installed setup worked
well doing OCR for exactly 3 months. Then, I started getting an error message every time I tried to start the "Textbridge" software.
Neither Acer nor Scansoft (OCR author) will take responsibility for
the problem. Neither of their Tech Supports can help.
I even tried buying an upgrade version of the OCR software, called
"Textbridge Home Edition," but that didn't fix the problem. The
support networks show a lot of this.
Actually, I believe the Textbridge software put a "timer" in my
Windows registry to give me only 3 months of use. That's really
sick because reformatting my hard disk would be the only way to
certainly remove that registry entry.
Right now, I'm throwing the Acer 320U in the trash. I would not
recommend any version of Scansoft's "Textbridge" software either.
