| gjleake's Full Review: AcerScan 1240UT Flatbed Scanner |
We tried canon and epson scanners and found the Acer to be a superb mix. The slower speed is far outweighed by the quality of output, color matching, and resolution of negative scanning. The unit is robust, well designed and supported by good drivers which allow you to perform many pre-processing functions. The negative abilities are the kind you expect from a scanner twice the price, and are far superior to the equivalent canon.
Installation was simple, connecting the USB lead produced a wizard on the PC which led smoothly to the drivers.
Included are black plastic negative and large format transparency holders for easy alignment.
The twain driver has descreening features to get rid of those annoying dots when scanning from magazines, and the color matches well with the original. It appeared that the brightness was a bit too high, but when printing and pasting in documents it is actually just right.
