In a world where people boast about their 400 horsepower automobiles, 1000 megahertz computers, and 4 megapixel cameras, we find a product that defies the belief that size does matter. What product am I referring to? Why, I'm talking about the Cambridge Soundworks SW310 series speakers. This system is a step up, above the the original Camgrbridge Soundworks speakers. The SW10 series includes an improved subwoofer.
Getting back on track, this system is powered by a mere 21 watts. What a pathetic system, right? This mere 21 watt system is capable of blowing away my room mate's 80 watt Altec Lansing system. The number two setting on the volume, alone, is enough to shake the floor below me. I've had to move the subwoofer on my desk's hutch to keep the people below me from pounding on the ceiling when I play my music or play games.
Furthermore, the size of the subwoofer and speakers would make you think that this system is incapable of blowing a feather away. Two compact, 89 x 89 x 89 mm box-shaped satellites are nothing to be afraid of. The subwoofer also has a small footprint (272 x 190 x 193 mm). Compared to my room mate's huge subwoofer and speakers, my system doesn't seem to stand a chance. Looking at his woofer, alone, would make you think that it could eat you alive. But as I stated before, size doesn't matter with this system. There is also an upside to having very small speakers; you have more desk space than you would with a similar system with the SW310's capabilities.
Other than the whopping power out of what seems like a petty system thing, the SW310 delivers awesome sound. It recreates sounds quite nicely. The sound is pure. A train is a train. A baby is a baby. A coin pinging is a coin pinging. Moreover, it does this with no distortion at any volume level. You can have it at the maximum volume setting, shaking every room in your house, and it will still sound as good as a low volume setting. Cambridge also includes wires that are long enough for almost anyone's needs. The wires are long! Another convenient feature is the volume control. It is a remote attached to another long control. I find it nice to be able to put the control next to my keyboard and simply pick it up for adjustment instead of having to get up and turn the knob on one of my speakers.
So Cambridge's SW310 series speakers are a very capable speaker system that also has a nice array of features.
