| vemartin's Full Review: Cambridge Soundworks C1MWBWEE 2 Speakers |
Rich vibrant, crisp sound, dynamic bass response, and a surprisingly full, loud, but clear mid-range make the Cambridge SoundWorks CSW PCWorks a must have for those with limited desktop space.
My old Altec’s (may they rest in peace) were getting a little long in the tooth, having moved with me no less than four times in the last three years. One of the speakers had finally given out after my latest move into our new home, so I decided that it was time for a new pair of speakers. I wanted something inexpensive (under $50.00), but with the sound of a pair that cost twice or even three time that amount.
Having been more than satisfied with my Cambridge SoundWorks surround sound speakers, I knew the brand was one I could trust for sound quality at an affordable price, so when I saw the CSW PCWorks at my local CompUSA, I bought them without the benefit of hearing them first.
So off to home I went with my new purchase. The speakers come, as most speakers do these days, with a bass unit and two satellite speakers that fit nicely on my desktop. All of the cords are long, so that placement of the speakers on your desktop should present little problem. The unit also comes with a handy volume control that you can Velcro (Velcro included) to your monitor and any other place you might find it convenient. The volume control plugs into the sound card in the computer, and the other end plugs into the bass unit. The two satellite speakers also plug into the bass unit.
The speakers come with some cheesy games and yet another software CD Player (I’ll stick with Windows Media Player thank you), which isn’t needed for the speakers to operate, so I quickly discarded it.
Once set-up was complete I started enjoying my new speakers. As I pointed out at the outset of this review that sound does not disappoint; the bass is rich and deep just the way I like it, the highs are clear and free of distortion, and the mid-range is as it should be; loud and vibrant. The only complaint I have is some feedback in the form of clicking when I move the mouse pointer vertically along the screen; i.e. when I am scrolling. This only seems to occur when I am playing music in the form of an MP3. In all fairness I don’t know that the speakers are at fault, it might be the sound card causing the feedback, or it might be due to something else. I will have to trace the problem down.
Final verdict: I am very happy with my new CSW PCWorks speakers and would highly recommend these speakers to anyone in the market for low cost speaker with a high priced sound!
