Since the publishing of this review in 2001, the prices have gone up:
-If you are a Cablevision TV subscriber with the Family package or above the cost is $39.99/month
-If you have a basic package or do not have cable TV at all the cost has gone up to $49.99/month.
-An additional computer is $39.99/month

After these increases, the prices are up near DSL, if you have to pay the $49.99.

actually you don't HAVE to install phone filters. If you have simultaneous voice/data on the same line possibly, but my dsl is run on a seperate line and thus doesn't have a problem.

And you are correct, you don't have to setup the networking info to the same degree, but god do i love my static ip. So does my full 80gb drive.

Nice job.

well, i was referring to the fact that with DSL you need to install line filters on all your phone lines around the house (we had 4 phones). which i didn't at first, because i didn't install them not knowing what those filters were at first, and so when someone picked up the phone, the DSL connection went wacky.

and because DSL has a static IP, you have to enter the IP address in there manually, whereas on Cable, you just check "obtrain IP automatically" and be done with that part.

okay, so i was exaggerating a bit on the "5 times as much" phrase, but it was definitely easier than DSL. :)

both dsl and cable function the same way, the networking is controlled be windows. Both lines are run to your modem with then translates it to rj45 ethernet wire. They are in fact identical setups on the computer side, they are treated like just another part of the network.
