Why didn't I do this sooner? Money 2000 Deluxe came as part of a software package on my HP Pentium desktop. It then sat, unused, for three months. After using Quicken I was not looking forward to the tedious task of logging all my expenses. Quicken's graphics had always been a little too busy for me as well. This software made me sit up in my chair a little straighter! Right off the bat it gets you excited about finance with a great overview of what the software has to offer. His and her narrators walk you through everything and make you feel at ease.
First, Money 2000 takes you through your accounts. Here you input all of your checking, saving, retirement and even money market accounts. It doesn't ask for account numbers, just whom you have the accounts with and what your balances are.
Next it asks you details on all of your expenses. It easily has categorized every expense you could possibly think of and if it doesn't have a place for your expense, it creates one. Money 2000 walks you through each creditor, utility, loan and phone bill you have. It will ask for payment amounts, due dates and how often you make the payment. This part of the program takes the longest. Make sure you have all of your account information close by.
It then asks you about your saving plans, extra expenses and offers to run a pay-off schedule on your loans. I loved this part! I entered all my credit cards and loans and told Money 2000 how much I could afford to pay each month. The software then told me how long it would take to pay off each loan and created a detailed graph to show me the whole pay off process.
After you input all your information you can go to the main screen and access your "checkbook". I call it this because it's similar to a ledger. You enter each transaction you make and Money 2000 keeps a running total starting from the original account balances you entered in step one above. You can also view a list of all your bills. The program will tell you which are overdue and when to make your next payment. It can also send you reminders.
I'm just starting to delve into all of Money's possibilities but so far I'm loving it. It makes doing my bills bearable again. Sorry, Quicken, I'm not coming back!
