The Bottom Line: Eastern is cheap and easy to get scholarships. I attended UNM for 2 years with very little financial aid, after 1 year at ENMU I got a couple thousand dollars!

| MQB0010's Full Review: Eastern New Mexico University |
Eastern New Mexico University is located in Poratales, New Mexico, a town of 10,000 friendly people and 3 or four old grouches (as the sign says). Eastern is a great place for your college education. The small atmosphere allows for incoming freshmen to get to know more people, very fast. The class sizes are usually small and have no more than 20 people in them. The teachers actually seem to care unlike teachers at other Universities. In fact, they take attendence in all the classes and some even approach you to see if you need help.
Eastern offers several excellent degree choices. I am currently enrolled as a Broadcast Production student. The facilities they have are fairly good for the class portion, but you are also required to work at the television station and their facilities are also good. Over the course of my first year in the program I was able to gain valuable hands on experience including shooting news stories for News 3 New Mexico, editing, and doing studio jobs during the news such as technical directing, studio camera, audio operator and directing a live News broadcast. This experience is necessary for anyone wanting a career in television and Eastern has the facilities and faculty to help you achieve your goals.
As for other recreational type activities...Portales is a small, boring town. The university tries to compensate for this by providing a gym (free to students to workout), a pool (also free), and other activities throughout the semester. Some of these include a free movie at the local theater (this is really nice because they are movies that are currently being shown in theaters), hillarious comedians, and some well known musicians. There are also a lot of parties so if you are a party animal you will find your place at eastern, if not I reccommend you bring some stuff from home to entertain you in the dorms because the university becomes a ghost town on the weekends.
All in all ENMU is a great place for college. You will learn a lot, teachers are willing to help, there are fun activities, and you can easily make new friends. The price of attendence including room, board, fees, tuition, and books is less than $10,000 a year. Oh, I forgot to mention too that Scholarships are very easy to get here. They are practically throwing money at any student that comes in the door and many people are on workstudy so don't worry about not being able to find a job in town. I hope to see you at ENMU in the Fall!
