robbie888's Full Review: Sennheiser PXC 250 Consumer Headphones
The first question is - Are noise cancelling headphones worthwhile and the second must be - are these particular ones any good?
On the subject on noise cancelling I have the following to say - I get on the London Tube every day. The Tube must be one of the noisest places on earth. It is worse than the NY Subway. What can noise cancelling do for this? It was originally designed to cancel out aeroplane noise so there is no way that you will elimate all the noise of the Tube. That said - it does cancel out lots of the low frequency noise and put simply - I would recommend these for the Tube/Subway - on the caveat that it does not remove the high squeaks or the "clacks" of the train or people talking next to you. (Not really a problem on the London Tube but more of an issue on the NY Subway.)
OK - so you want noise cancelling - which phones do you get? Bose do the most expensive (and probably the best, although i've never tried them) and every company has got a version. These sennheisers are pretty good. I think for the price tag they are the best of the bunch. I go by the fact that Sennheiser make only headphones and microphones and that they use 2 AAA batteries as opposed to one. That's the basis on which i bought them - and also on a test they gave better sound and better noise cancellation than the panasonic ones i used to have
