acestep's Full Review: Whistler DE-1650 Radar Detector
I have owned a radar detector for at least a 1 1/2 years. When I got this one I was excited of the safety warning system. What they forget to mention in the adds is most county's don't have these systems in their vehicles. I drive about 90 miles to get to work. My cheap small town do not have them, Tacoma doesn't have them, and Seattle doesn't have any safety warning systems installed.
The text display is the best feature on this radar detector. You can easily read what it is beeping about. It has more false alarms then other radar detectors, BUT if you drive the same places most of the time you know exactly when/where to expect the false alarms.
The beeps this thing makes aren't the annoying screaches or other sounds that some make. You can adjust the volume to meet your needs, and the beeps are pretty soft (I don't mean quiet, but I couldn't think of a better word.) so it dosn't get to be very annoying.
My only huge problem with this radar detector is the safety warning system. I would really like whistler to make a radar detector that detects the strobes that most emergency vehicles use to make stop lights change.
QUICK TIP: If you do get pulled over for ANYTHING make sure to get the thing out of site or you will have no chance in getting out of a ticket!
