| 11771's Full Review: Marantz CC-4000 5-Disc CD Changer |
My trusty old Technics single play CD Player was nearly 12 years old and I decided to upgrade it with a CD Player with multiple disc capability. I decide to go with a carousel player versus a magazine player (based on reliability research I had done) and a five disc player versus a jukebox type player(I like arranging and rearranging my vast CD collection - Hey, it's a hobby). My main considerations were reliability, ease of use and most important - the sound quality. I focused in on the Marantz since I just upgraded to a new Marantz SR-7000 Receiver. (I also listened to players from Onkyo and Yammaha for comparison purposes)I've had the player for six months now and can finally evaluate how I like it:
High Notes:
- The player takes up to Five discs and you have the ability to change up to three while one disc still plays. The player also lets you "Quick Play" a disc that you have loaded. Both of these features were not in my initial requirements but have made the player very convienent.
- Random Play. Most multiple disc players have this feature but I found the time delay between disc "shuffling" in most other brands to be slow and worse yet, many other brands do not do a good job of mixing up songs. In other words you hear almost an entire disc before it moves to another disc or you hear repeated songs - very annoying. The Marantz has never repeated a single song in a five disc sequence and you can hardly detect the time in between discs. It appears very seamless in the transitions.
- CD-R and CD-RW capable. This was a huge consideration since I like to put together my own compilation CD's. I've been sticking with Verbatim 80 minute CD-R discs and have not had a single one rejected. That's 400 minutes of uninterrupted and customized music for lazy afternoons.
- Nice clean and open sound. I'm not an audiophile. I do not sit and critique the sonic properties of the music. I am a music lover and the music sounds wonderful - much more detailed than my old Technics or some of the other players I listened to.
- The player is quite solid and has a nice hefty feel to it. I cannot say whether this translates into better reliability but it seems to have a better construction than other brands - nothing flimsy here!
Sour Notes:
- It is a chore to program all five discs. I would have preferred a song number keypad right on the unit. This would have sped up the programming process.
- The remote is just adequate. I am using the universal remote that came with the SR-7000 however.
