| cobra526's Full Review: Sherwood RVD-8090R Receiver |
I was able to grab this receiver off an online auction for $220. I needed something that would be able to make some noise in a college dorm room. I got more than I bargained for. For the price, I was expecting an average receiver, one that you could turn all the way up and annoy people with horrible distortion. For the record, I have not dared cranked my Sherwood higher than the 65 sound level, the maximum being 100. I have two Aiwa midrange speakers and a 10' powered sub hooked up and the sound quality that the 8090R pushes through them is amazing. I had to stop turning it up at 65 because dust was coming off the ceiling, things were walking off the shelves, and my RA (resident assistant)commenced to beating my door down. The great thing is that the sound clarity and quality was still excellent, even at that high a volume. Initially when it first came out of the box, I hard a hard time learning all the controls. Once I did, the sound could be controlled very easily and effectively. I especially like being able to modify each channel individually; it really helps when you have different sized speakers. For the price I paid, I have the unruly power to let everyone on my floor know what I'm listening to, whether they want to or not.
