Pros: Wide range of uses. Cheap as now!
Cons: Skinny little remote!! Buttons that do 3 differant things!! No equaliser. No DTS
The Bottom Line: If your just starting out and looking for a basic amp, this will definitely do the job. Should be fairly cheap by now as well.

Looking down at the cons would suggest I wasn't happy with this amp but thats no the case, read on.
I bought this amp brand new for $599AU. I didn't know anything about stereo equipment at the time, but I had money to burn I was only 18 and I just knew I wanted a stereo. Steve Bennett HiFi in Geelong recommended this amp to start me off. I got the amp, Db Dynamic Polaris Series speakers and a Yamaha CDC-675 5 disc cd player.Big step up in sound from my all in one Panasonic cd player.
What has been so good about the Yamaha amp has been the fact that it took me ages to outgrow it and think that I could do better.(I get bored really easily with stuff). Even after I got my surround speakers and subwoofer, I got to fiddle around and tweak things to my liking while I learnt about home stereo/theatre. I would have liked an equaliser though, mainly for stereo use, however it's fairly easy to find a surround "sound field" effect to suit differant style movies or tastes. The sound quality especially for the price is more than adequate for most listeners.
It does have a fairly good selection of inputs as well. you can run two digital audio devices, cd player, vcr, aux, tape m/d player.
One point to note is the remote. Yes it's really skinny and has like a hundred buttons on it and most of them do more than one thing depending what source your listening to and whether your trying to control more than one device at a time(like a dvd, cd and the amp - yep you can do it all from one remote).
I did think soon after I got it that the 60w a channel was inadequate but thats not really the case. Unless you want ear bleedingly(do you like that word?)loud sound it is more than adequate.
So in summary it is a great amp to start with, especially now, you could pick them up for probably under $200AU.
