Pros: Big comfi cups, long cord, good trebles
Cons: No bass, useless mute switch, cord comes out of the left cup
The Bottom Line: Spend a few more bucks and get something better. Unfortunately anything decent these days is above $100.

| verolom's Full Review: Aiwa HP-X222 Consumer Headphones |
I have had HP-X311 for maybe 6 years now. Great fit, great bass, good mids and trebles. They were $34.99 at BestBuy, a great deal. So I decided to get the HP-X222 considering the good experience. They are $29.99 at BestBuy again.
First of, I did not like the silver paint and the cord coming out only from one cup (I'm old-fashioned, you know). I plugged them in parallel with the old ones to compare. I never use an equalizer. The HP-X222 were more sensitive and had better trebles, and after listening for a while, they were actually a bit loud and distorted (no THD given by AIWA). The bass was missing. No bass and I mean none of it as if the response curve drops down 10-15 dB below 200 Hz. I did not like that they were needlessly bigger and did not fold, whereas the HP-X311 are smaller yet cover the whole ear and cups can be folded under the arched arm. The mute switch only works if you keep it depressed. It is just another place to have the contacts corrode and create noise.
I guess AIWA is now really a below mainstream brand, typical for what BestBuy sells nowadays.
