zavmaster's Full Review: Bang & Olufsen A8 Consumer Headphones
One of the latest products from Denmark's Bang & Olufsen moves them out of the home and onto your head.
Bang and Olufsen has been making high-end audio and video products for a very long time, and this product continues the long line of excellence. In a word, these earphones are amazing.
COMFORT: These are the most comfortable phones I have ever worn. The great designers at B & O, under the direction of David Lewis, have made it easy to adjust the phones to the exact size and shape of your ears. This allows for an unprecedented amount of comfort. I can literally wear them for hours without the slightest amount of fatigue. Besides, they just look really great, kind of like sound jewelry.
SOUND: Once again, amazing. B&O has managed to squeeze their signature sound quality into a tiny device. The sound is clean, open, spacious, airy, detailed, and very accurate. The bass leaves a little bit to be desired, but this is an inherent design flaw that comes with using such a small driver. For the amount of size and space that they had to work with, B&O did a very good job.
QUALITY: Like all Bang & Olufsen products, these will last forever. I have owned various B&O products from an early 80’s receiver to a recent telephone purchase, and they all have the quality that B&O is known for. I have no doubt that you will able to give these phones to your grandchildren and they will still sound great. They are not made of cheap plastic like other products. They are made from aluminum that is anodized with a clear coat in B&O’s new anodization factory. They are covered with a thin coating of Santoprene, a thermoplastic elastomer that has the feel and texture of rubber but the mold characteristics of plastic. Very good choices indeed.
Overall, these are a great purchase. Yes, they cost 160, but it really is worth it for the quality you get. Buy them now. You will not be disappointed.
