I wish the AM-C80 had been available back when I got my Sharp 702. Having had one a couple of weeks now, I've found it to be a more capable and user-friendly editing recorder.I do a lot of recording from radio and need to edit out commercials and such, and that's where this unit really shines. When using the divide function, you use the jog wheel to get to the exact spot- be it forward or backward- that you want your edit point. It plays a few seconds of your chosen edit point and asks "divide ok?". You keep using the wheel and your ear until you're satisfied with the edit point- then press enter. I find it is just as precise as the Sony home units. I would have rather had the rechargeable battery included instead of the optic cable, cigarette lighter power and cassette adapters. Those items are easier and cheaper to find than the $60 battery (I have since found that Andrews Electronics [800-274-4666] has it for $42 + $6.95 S+H). The external battery box is kinda large (3-AA cells) and doesn't mount to the deck- it just plugs into its dc input jack. I don't care for the layout of the remote either- there are buttons on all sides of it so it's hard to pick up without pressing one of them and inadvertently change a setting. But, those are small gripes- the performance of this unit far outweigh them.
