Pros: Compact and Sturdy, Uses CF cards, comes with car kit
Cons: Cannot stand even small amounts of moisture (sweat).
The Bottom Line: For the money you'll probably not do much better. Overall, I recommend it, although I no longer trust RCA.

| gsx1300r's Full Review: RCA Lyra RD2211 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
About a week after I wrote my review, I started having a problem with the display. I sent it back to RCA for repair under Warranty, I believed. They denied having received my package, but a week after I produced tracking information, they found it. They ended up returning it to me UNREPAIRED and with no explanation as to why. Further, they did not return the memory card, which I was later told I should not have sent. After dozens of emails and dozens of unreturned phone calls, I finally found a rep who "found" my records in the system and authorized me to return the item again for repair - but for $59. I told him to forget it, since the 64mb cf card would cost me $30 to replace, and for nearly $100 I didn't think the Lyra was worth fixing.
THis may not be typical, but it's what happened to me.

My original review follows, in case you're still interested in what I thought before this incident...
-------------------------
I have had my Lyra 2 for about 11 months now. The sound quality of the included headphones was OK, but I upgraded to a better, smaller earbud style headphone set. The menus are slow to load, but you get used to it after a short while. The wired remote is very useful if you ride a motorcycle or bicycle (I do both) since you can keep your hands pretty much on the handlebars and skip songs or change stations.
My only real complaint about the unit is that when it gets wet from sweat, the lcd screen stops working. It usually comes back on a day or two later, but it's annoying to have to flip through the menus entirely from memory at those times the screen is blank.
I get about 7 hours of use from my rechargeable NIMH batteries and I keep the player at a moderately loud volume most of the time. The included car adapter charges my rechargeables while it's plugged into my cigarette lighter.
