| Babycarrots's Full Review: Cobra ESD 6000 Radar Detector |
Recently I purchased a radar detector called the Whistler. Although a fantastic product it did not stand out alone. There were other very strong products out there and this was one of them, and since you only need one for your car I figured this might just be what you are looking for.
Cobra ESD-6000
The Cobra is a fine product and does everything it is advertised to do. I must say though that after seeing it in use, and learning more about it, it really changed my perspective upon radar detectors. When the were first designed they were really meant for those fast drivers looking to outwit the police. That really isn't the case anymore due to all the new features and convienences this unit can give you while driving.
So what can this do for me and what does it offer?
When you look at just the radar detection ability this unit stands up just fine. Using a 6 band ESD (extra sensory detection) it picks up everything out there. All the K bands and super K band, laser, VG-2 and basically anything else out there being used by law enforcement.
Not only does it help detect these tools of the trade, but it also makes itself invisible from detection when dealing with the VG-2 Band.
Is there anything about this that makes it different from the others?
Actually yes there is! Earlier I mentioned that there is a lot more to this than just radar detection. The Safety Alert System warns you as a motorist of various emergency situations. This includes things such as approaching emergency vehicles, or road hazards, and even trains, as long as these vehicles are equipped with the Safety Alert transmitter.
Anything lacking on the Cobra system?
Not really as it is a well rounded affair. I would have to say it really touches all the bases. Included with this is a window mounting bracket which makes it all the more effective, and a lot more convienent for us to use.
Another great facility of this detection system is the usage of voices. The Cobra will give you a voice indication of approaching emergencies or radar detection and then follow that up with a series to beeps to indicate how close or far off a signal is. This is great in that you never have to take your eyes from the road to get the most out of the Cobra.
Well, how much does something like this cost an individual?
This unit is not only effective, but also well priced. The Cobra carries a MSRP of 99.00 but can be found much much cheaper. I have found it through online auctions as cheap as 49 dollars. For some place a little more predictable I also located it through radar-guys.com for an everyday price of 79.00 which is great for what you get.
The warranty isn't that fantastic though. It carries a limited one year warranty. Although it really doesn't protect you all that long the initial investment really isn't that high to begin with. Also these are extremely low maintainence items and rarely do the suffer from mechanical mishaps and failures, so it really isn't much to fret about.
For the most part the deal from Cobra is very sound. It is a reliable product and does it job strictly as advertised. So if you want to add a little security and safety to your driving, make a sound choice and add a Cobra ESD-6000 to your vehicle today!
