I believe I am the only person in North America whose family did not have a cordless phone in their house. I never got to feel that experience of walking through the house, sitting outside on a summer day, or taking the cordless phone to the washroom without telling the person on the line that I had to do some business, LoL.
Well this Christmas, my brother and I purchased the Panasonic KX-TC1700B and my family made history! We originally bought the phone for our parents but we knew and they knew it was for us, but no one cared. We had been recommended of this phone for a while by my other brother who is married and he has had this phone for over 6 months and said and I quote "It's one of the best out there on the market!"
Sound Quality
What I really like about this phone is that it does not crack as you move farther away from the device. Our base set is in the hall main floor and considering I live in a 4 floor house, even at the farthest spot at the top, the sound is virtually the same. I did a little test for the range I could get. This meant walking out of the house and seeing how far I could go without getting any static. I estimated it to be about 60m before finally hearing the slightest static. So 60m + the 10m to the house = 70m before the phone starts to crack. I have noticed when I would be talking with my friends (before I had this phone) they would be on their cheaper outdated cordless phone models and we used to be able to pick up conversations from other people who had cordless within his neighborhood. Boy, some of the conversations we picked up were hilarious. With this phone, you will never have to say Hold on, let me switch channels!
Call Display and Call Waiting
Call waiting came into my house in '92 and I was also one of those people that didn't have Call Display until `99. What TORTURE! Call Waiting is all fine and dandy, but you can't really see who it is. I don't want to have to guess who it is! Nor do I want to find out that it's that one geeky friend who wants to go out and I can't bail on him because I "owe" him. With this feature you can be on the phone with the "cool" friend and screen your "nerd" friends call and take the option of checking it.
Programming Names and Numbers
This phone allows you to store the names and numbers of up to 50 people. Seriously, I need more than 50! When you have 4 people in your house and each person has over 20 people that they usually call ... do the math. Its kind of fun to edit peoples names with this phone. That one person who I don't like calling or talking to is notated as "DONT ANSWER THIS #".
Charging : 4 hours
What Happens When Granny Comes Over?
Most old people have hearing problems and believe me when I call those numbers at the market research firm that I work at and an old lady picks up Whaaaaat?! Can you speak a little bit louddddddder!?. The phone has 3 levels of sound.
Level 1 : Whisper to Normal Conversation
Level 2 : Normal Conversation to a little bit less than a loud person talking
Level 3 : Loud person speaking to the level before screaming
The Best Feature of All!!
I think I have the Guinness Record for most objects lost in a 19 year lifetime. I've lost keys multiple times, money, homework (woohoo, I lost it!), jackets, television convertors, etc. You name it I've lost it!
Rich - Mom, where the heck is the cordless phone?
Mom - Check the last place you put it!!
Rich - Argh! Let me Check the manual they may know where it is ...
To locate the handset, press the handset locator button
Rich - Ahhh ... Makes sense
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!
Ok it was under the stove this time.
This phone was a great investment for this late technological family. The sound is clear 99% of the times, has a 70 meter range by my calculations, the ability to screen calls even while you are on the phone, quick charging hours, a locator BEEP, an option to change sound for different people. I paid around $129.99, which I now see costs $99.99. I got gypped $30, but hey it was worth it.
