| hans2712's Full Review: Canon Elura 2 Mini DV Camcorder |
I did a lot of research on camcorders before choosing to purchase this one (although I didn't know about this site). I purchased this camcorder to get some video of my newborn son growing up. I have had the camcorder for about 1 month now.
I have been so happy with the quality of the video that I have started using it for other events as well. I never believed I would be really into taking video of events. I was wrong.
The video quality is very good, right around 500 lines of resolution. So it comes pretty close to DVD quality. The controls are easy to use. I like the still picture functionality of the camcorder. The picture quality isn't anything great but it is not bad for a camcorder. The only problem I have had with the camcorder is in situations where you are inside a building on a bright day. Everything inside gets very dark and it is hard to make out objects. This may be a problem with all video equipment?
I have also purchased a firewire card, StudioDV, and have been very happy being able to digitally edit the video, compact video on tapes, and rearrange video. I have recently began recording old 8mm film reels onto DV tapes to save old family film and the camcorder seems to be doing this well.
I did purchase an extended battery (3 hr) because the one that comes with it lasts under an hour. The remote is easy to use and I like the ability to control almost all the functions of the camcorder from the remote.
Overall I am very happy with the quality of this camcorder.
