We had an 8mm camera for about 10 years but my wife wanted something should could play the tapes back in the VCR. This camera has nice features, is small, and the color LCD screen is terrific but compared to the 8mm camera we used to have it takes a long time to pull the tape into the camera and it is not stereo. Stereo is not that big of a deal for home videos but the lag time when editing drives me nuts. I also find the controls confusing, especially for the digital still camera, and find I have to carry the instructions whenever we use the camera. It does have a nice quiet zoom that does not "hunt" and the picture quality is not bad. I kind of regret not getting a digital video camera instead.
