| soupcraze's Full Review: Pioneer DV-333 DVD Player |
I have seen some very powerful high-end DVD/CD/VCD players on the market, they go for $800+ usually. I was looking for a cheaper one to go with my grandparent's 55th anniversary gift. I was looking for a nice DVD/CD/VCD player to go with the Sony WEGA that I purchased for them. I found the Pioneer DV-333 at Best Buy on sale for only $274.95, the salesperson also said it was very good quality. I wasn't willing to spend $550 for a DVD/CD/VCD player, so I purchased the Pioneer DV-333. After installing it and viewing some movies on it, here's what I found:
Price:
The price of the Pioneer DV-333 was well worth it. The Pioneer DV-333 comes in at around $300 at normal price, but you can always find it on sale. It's a fairly simple DVD player, but it plays many useful formats that you usually find on the more expensive Sony and Panasonic DVD/CD/VCD players. The price for the Pioneer DV-333 is really nice, it's a very affordable component that works great with many TVs. It's pretty much built on high quality components, and is very durable. It can even make a RCA TV look powerful when playing movies. The Pioneer DV-333 is well worth the price.
Warranty:
I got the basic Pioneer warranty with my Pioneer DV-333. Pioneer works well with their warranties and guarantees. My grandparents have had no problems at all with their Pioneer DV-333, and I have not yet had to ever send a Pioneer product back to them, but from what I have heard, Pioneer takes care of all problems quickly and efficiently.
Installation:
Installing the Pioneer DV-333 was no problem at all for me. There was a very detailed instruction manual that comes with the DVD player. All of the cables were included with the system, and I had no problems connecting them into the Sony television. If you have problems with installation, you can always call Best Buy (If you buy it there) for support, or you can even call Pioneer.
Durability:
The Pioneer DV-333 is built solid. All of the components are of highest quality. The Pioneer DV-333 never broke, or nothing has ever fallen off. It's as tough as any Sony. The Pioneer DV-333 is truly built to last for a long time.
Sound:
The sound was simply amazing. The Dolby Digital sound is great! Especially when the Pioneer DV-333 is connected to a high-end Sony television (XBR aka WEGA). The sound is very crisp, clear, and amazing. The sound is very strong and smooth, the Pioneer DV-333 can release great sound that will just amaze you. The sound can also reach incredible levels if Bose or Boston Acoustics speakers are used in the home entertainment system. Pioneer really does specializr with sound, the sound is some of the best you'll ever hear.
Picture:
The picture is incredible clear on the Pioneer DV-333. The picture is incredibly lifelike, there is detail everywhere, and the colors are just so smooth and well blended. The picture looks even better on Sony XBRs or HDTVs because the resolution on the Pioneer DV-333 can reach great levels. The video overall is amazing, everything is so incredibly detailed. DVDs also look incredible on the Pioneer DV-333, and VCD movies actually look quite nice on it.
Ease of Use:
The Pioneer DV-333 is fairly easy to use. You can navigate easy using a remote control. No function is too hard to execute, and my grandparents actually managed to use it correctly! Now how was that possible? :-) The Pioneer DV-333 is a very easy to use machine, there should be no problems at all with using this machine.
Formats Supported:
One of the reasons I purchased this system for my grandparents was because it supported multiple formats other than DVD. DVDs are after all very expensive, and CD-Rs are very cheap, so VCD were possible to watch. The formats are:
DVD - The DVD format... This is what the DVD player was built for. DVDs allow movies to be taken to new levels, with incredible sound and video quality. DVDs are quite pricy though, so the CD-R feature then comes into play.
CD - The CD format is audio CDs that can be played on the Pioneer DV-333. The CDs end up sounding great if the DVD is connected to a high-end speaker system or TV.
CD-R - CD-R are CDs that you can use with CD-RW CD burners. You can put music or movies onto them. They are very inexpensive, with some sales, you can purchase them in a pack with the price per CD averaging only $0.25. Burners today reach speeds of 16X, so you can make a full CD within 15 minutes.
VCD - VCDs are movie files that can be downloaded for FREE off the internet, and burned onto CD-R discs. They do have a lot of pixelation, but the quality is ok. They are very cheap compared to DVDs, $0.25 - $1.00 per CD-R that has the movie on it compared to $14.99 for the worst movie avaliable on DVD. The VCD movies are around 300MB per part, and are a total of 600MB in total space for a full movie. Cable modem or DSL should be used to download them.
Speed:
The Pioneer DV-333 is a very fast DVD. I found it to actually be the fastest in its class. It has speed enhancers built in so you can get a great viewing experience at the best speed possible.
The Verdict:
The Pioneer DV-333 is a great DVD/CD/VCD player, and it's well worth the price. The price is great for this player, you get so many great features with it. It works great with any TV, especially flat screen TVs. The Pioneer DV-333 is one of a few, multiple format DVD players at its price... The Pioneer DV-333 will simply amaze you, it's an amazing DVD/CD/VCD player that will be great in any home. The Pioneer DV-333 also makes a great gift, everyone will love it. It's one high quality DVD/CD/VCD player that is BANG FOR THE BUCK. It will not leave buyers in remorse.
