Pros: Versatile, well laid out, right mix of features and simplicity.
Cons: None, except maybe a backlit keypad if you need it.
The Bottom Line: Buy this remote especially if you have Sony components, but it's great because it learns ANY function on all keys, plus does macros.

| mwl001's Full Review: Sony RM-VL900 Remote Control |
When I decided for harmony's sake to purchase all Sony products in my home theater system, I figured it would be best to stay with Sony for the remote. That has turned out to be a very good decision, with the VL900 meeting all of my needs in a streamlined and simple package for $60. I have no doubt this remote will work well in just about any mix of component brands and types.
I first looked at the more expensive touch screen model, the AV3000, but decided against it as I tend to memorize buttons on my remotes rather than look down at them.
There were several reasons I decided to go with this remote (for excellent in depth reviews and advice, go to www.remotecentral.com).
1. Every key can be learned on.
2. No recognizable memory limit (learn all keys on all devices).
3. Not too complicated, but not so bare bones as to not fully replace all of my remotes.
4. Macros! Great for turning on and off your components, as well as switching inputs on tvs and receivers.
5. Discrete functions for Sony products (direct selection of tv inputs (all on/off for Sony components built in.)
6. Best of all, I no longer need ANY of my other remotes for my components (Sony TV, Tivo/satellite, Hitachi VCR, Receiver, and PS2.)
Learning and macros are relatively simple to program, I would recommend this to anyone hoping to really streamline their remote setup and component switching.
