| snakeobson's Full Review: AKG K 240M Professional Headphones |
Though not that involved in music as much today, I bought my AKG K240 M about 6 years ago when I as doing a lot of playing and recording. The headphones in the studio we used were not the nicest or most hygienic, I bought a good pair of my own. It was a great investment.
The K240 are an excellent pair of home-use headphones and are definitely good enough for studio use. The sound quality is superb - treble is accurately produced without hiss and the bass is powerful, yet not just a toneless thud. All around excellent frequency response. Also, these can be loud! I think I'd damage my ears with volume before these headphones distort.
One of the nicest things about the phones is how comfortable they are. I think another review said they were heavy, but if you think that - you don't know what heavy is! They sit very comfortably and don't pinch your head. They are adjustable with an elastic system - a leather strap is what contacts your head. The ear pieces cover your entire ear and are again padded generously with a leather cushion.
The cable exits the left ear to your stereo or mixer, etc, and is a straight cable (not curled like phone cords). The end is a 1/8" mini jack which screws into the more standard 1/4" jack. Don't worry - it's a tight and secure fit.
The only more or less drawback that might bother some people is the relatively high impedance. That means that you do need to use some good stereo or pro audio equipment with these headphones. If you try them with something like a portable CD player or Walkman, it is too soft - they don't put out enough signal.
These are definitely worth the investment if you are really into music. Try them on, and I'm pretty sure you'll hear things you never heard through your old headphones or speakers before.
