| nicolaim's Full Review: Technics SL-PD888 5-Disc CD Changer |
I own the PD887 model. I assume it's pretty much the same thing. It has worked flawlessly for years.
This is definitely one of the best affordable 5 disc changers. Technics is a subsidiary of Matsush*ta, the maker of Panasonic products. Both brands are known for good quality and reliability. This is backed up by Consumer Reports' findings.
Pros: The PD887 has a very fast carousel. It ejects quickly, and turns very fast, so you're not waiting around to swap discs. Solid feel and build quality. The unit looks nice. Sound quality seems good to me. I haven't tried other changers, so I don't know if it's better or worse than others in that respect. I'm not an audiophile anyway.
Cons: It's a pretty basic player with few extra features. The one I miss most if the peak level search of my old single disc Technics player. The display is also not very informative.
