Pros: Everything. Nearly indestructible in this era of planned obsolescence.
Cons: That there is nothing comparable on the market today.
The Bottom Line: I love this CD player - it will pass on to my grandchildren, should they know what CDs are

| bigroblee's Full Review: Panasonic ShockWave SL-SW405 Personal CD Player |
I don't know that anyone will ever read this in so far as I know this CD player isn't available new anymore. Just wanted to make note of some comments on it. Of all the personal CD players I have ever owned, of which there have been at least a couple dozen, this is the only one that has never failed to perform under any circumstances. I have dropped it, kicked it, had it fall off my bike and roll down the bike trail. It has been in 100 degree plus temps for days (in my car in central CA summer), in 10 degree temps for a couple days (couldn't find it, I had left it in the freezer(don't ask)), it has had pool water splashed liberally on it, and it was thrown at me quite quickly by an ex girlfriend. It has never, not once, never skipped. I don't remember the month I bought it but it was in the last quarter of 1998 and here seven years later it shows NO signs of quitting any time soon. The headphones broke at least three or four years ago, but the player is rock solid. Although it does not play MP3's (my only reason for recently purchasing a newer model) it has never failed to play and CDR I have thrown in it. So, if you want an indestructible damn near perfect portable CD player for work, home, or sport, then try Ebay or any other auction site to get one. You won't be disappointed.
Someone contacted me stating that this review was lacking technical specs. OK, as far as it goes, here are the specs. It uses 2 AA batteries which seem to last an average of 12 to 15 hours of play time for me. It has all the basic features of any CD player (play, stop, skip forward, skip backward, fast forward and reverse) as well as an easy to use slide switch on one side for the "hold" feature, it has the standard three modes of play, resume, normal, and random, and finally it has some different sound modes designated XBS and VMSS, which honestly I don't know what they technically mean but they sort of act like bass boost when used. Hope this helps
