| freyda's Full Review: Yamaha KX-W321 Single Cassette Deck |
When looking for a new stereo system this winter I was very disappointed by the lack of options with a dual cassette deck, for those of us who still believe in mix tapes. The choice was between horrendously ugly boom-box style systems and large component systems, which were generally pretty ugly themselves. I finally chose to get a small Yamaha component system with one of their large dual-decks. Although this cumbersome option wasn't my first choice, I am happy with the the cassette player. It is really easy to use, and everything is self-evident. It has all of the necessary features, and no silly extras to clutter it up.
The best thing about it is its accuracy. When you push stop or pause during recording, it actually stops right then -- no rewinding over and over again to get rid of messy transitions between songs.
The second best thing about it is its sleek style. There are no obnoxious flashing lights, no cluttering of its face with a million unnecessary buttons.
And of course, it sounds good.
There are a few drawbacks. Its recording level measurement is not very precise, which is upsetting for some people, though not an obsession of mine. Also, it doesn't have that handy feature that rewinds or fast forwards right to the beginning of the next track. However, it does have a counter, so you're not totally in the dark when you're looking for something on a tape.
