Pros: Durable, easy learning curve, AWESOME picture quality, clear and crisp sound, ergonomic button placement.
Cons: Comes with a cheap battery, Included shoulder strap is pathetic, the on/off/VCR button is annoying.
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a camera to put through the paces and expect superior quality, this is your camcorder.

| leekimrey's Full Review: Sony Handycam CCD-TRV87 Hi-8 Analog Camcorder |
After researching tons of camcorder websites, talking to tourists, and playing with all the models at Circuit City, I found this camera to be the perfect fit for me. I wanted something with a small form factor, very durable, excellent video, and sound that lets you relive the moment when you close your eyes... This camera is all that and then some. The only qualm I had was the battery and shoulder strap. Both are cheap and useless. Expect to drop an extra $100 on an 8hr battery and more if you think you can't get to a charger.
I still have to recommend this though, from taping on top of Diamond Head in Hawaii to dancing with it at a party with the occasional rough treatment, this camera has yet to stop impressing me. Nightshot sounds useless but if you're ever going to tape dancing or partying with the lights down, it really works great. The 20x optical zoom will capture things on vacation you never would of noticed. The digital effects are cool in edit mode, don't even try to play with them in the course of taping, it's annoying.
I like that the tapes are tiny and have such good quality, you can usually get 3 for $9 or $100 for the Better Ones(TM). The Hi-8 form factor is really convenient and comfortable.
