| quackhead's Full Review: Sony Handycam CCD-TRV87 Hi-8 Analog Camcorder |
This was supposed to be my replacement for getting my old 8mm camcorder ripped off. I got insurance money and went out and got Sony TRV-43. I loved it! It had a flip out screen (my old one didn't), and it was just as easy to use as my old camera. There were some really neat features and it seemed to be the 'end all, beat all' of cameras as far as I was concerned.
Then, about a week after I bought it, I went to eject a tape and it jammed. I couldn't pull it up and I couldn't push it down. It was stuck in limbo and my memories were now stuck too!!!! I was pretty upset and when I brought it back, the retailer replaced it as well as helping me remove my tape. It took a lot of screws and clips and small parts being removed to get the tape out. So, in the end I went home with my tape and another camcorder of the same model.
About a month later, I went to eject another tape and the same d!@# thing happened again! Now, I was a little upset. I took it back to the same retailer and got my money back. I am now looking for a digital camcorder in another brand name altogether.
One of the reasons I was focusing on getting a Sony was due to the name brand and the quality that usually has been attached. In this case, two of the same model ended up directly defying that Sony reputation and it lost my faith in the craftsmanship I had come to expect. I don't really want to find another brand, but the fact is that I am much more gun shy when it comes to spending the money for a digital camera.
There are some definite features that I will miss if I don't go back to Sony. The 'Night Shot' was incredible! I loved it! The ergonomics are great for my hand and I really wanted to get into using the "Laserlink". Sorry Sony. I may be gone forever!
