tennis_player's Full Review: Canon Elph2 APS Film Camera
These are additional comments regarding the Elph2.
I strongly urge Elph owners (all models) to purchase the remote controls available (RC-1 or RC-5 about $20) and a small mini tripod (Clampette @ $10; Giotti @ $20; Ultrapod @ $10 from REI or camera stores) and an extra battery. Armed with these accessories that will fit in your shirt, pant or jacket pocket or small purse, you can be equipped to take photos of tremendous scope and range without a lot of hassle and a big logistics hassle.
These tripods allow you to set the camera up on a flat surface like a table, the top of a cabinet, stone fence/wall, etc. The Clampette is the smallest of them and features a C-clamp for attaching to a table edge, glass edge of a partially lowered car window, fence board, chair back, etc. The UltraPod also has a velcro strap to allow the user to mount it to any horizontal or vertical item of about 4" diameter, like the top rail of a fence, the knob of a post, a planted ski pole, bicycle frame, etc.
Use of the remote control or the built-in self timer allows the user to get into the photo. I like this because whenever I give the camera to someone to take the photo, invariably, they focus on the head, thus cutting off our torsos or feet and have lots of empty space above our heads. I don't know why this happens, even when I ask them to focus on the chest area. Therefore, I find it much more efficient to decline the offer from others and set it up the way we want it and take it ourselves under complete and total self control.
Current selling prices by large chain stores for the Elph2 is $249, including Target and Walmart. The current selling price for the original Elph is $229 at Costco.
Red eye reduction and flash range remains the weak points for the newer Elph2. It does have a slightly faster lens for improved available light photograhy. Physical size is very slightly smaller in the Elph2. MRC (Mid-Roll Change) capability is still the biggest single improvement.
