The Kodak DC290 digital camera is not one of the cheapest - currently it costs around $600. But you get a lot for this price. It has two megapixel resolution (1,792 x 1,200) and allows to take uncompressed TIFF pictures to avoid loss in picture quality. It even allows you record and play back audio clips.
The camera has a 3x optical/2x digital zoom. It has large 2" LCD screen and includes a 16 MB CompactFlash memory card. The camera supports USB connectivity for fast image downloads. Since USB is a standard connectivity type for both PC and Apple computers, you can use both to store and process your pictures. The camera comes with four rechargeable AA-size batteries and an AC adapter/charger.
The built-in flash has four modes, including red-eye reduction. Special camera modes include time lapse and burst modes, auto and manual exposure settings. To catalog pictures, add text and sound, and adjust color balance and contrast, you can use Digita scripting feature. There is also an external flash capability.
The Kodak DC290 uses easy-to-use menu system, which is very intuitive.
The camera produces excellent pictures: they are bright and the color reproduction is excellent. The fine detail reproduction is excellent even in areas of low contrast, and the ability to store uncompressed images allows to eliminate artifacts that can be introduced by compression.
The camera's optical viewfinder is accurate, but the LCD viewfinder is even better, it shows exactly 100% of the final image area.
DC290 also excels at low-light work - the noise level is low and color balance is very good.
