| CanvasMan's Full Review: Kodak KC 50 35mm Film Camera |
On a trip out of town to go to my girlfriend's prom, I accidentally left my regular camera at home. My only options were to pick up either a couple disposable cameras, or buy an affordable 35 mm that I could reuse later. Well, needless to say, I bought the reusable camera. The Kodak KC-50 was my final (however rushed) decision, and I must say, I am quite happy with the results.
The camera comes in a sturdy black casing, the look and feel of which suggests that it would hold up to quite a beating. The viewfinder is a bit small, and gives somewhat of a fisheyed view, but the framing markings within are very distinct, which I like. I also like the fact that you can change focus points even with the auto focus feature. The frame counter is large and easily readable.
On the front of the camera, the lens has a shutter-style cover and a switch for 'no flash' and 'fill flash', which must be held to one side or the other manually as you take the picture. However this switch is well positioned enough that it is not a problem.
Other features include redeye reduction, auto flash and auto advance/rewind. The redeye reduction doesn't really work, but the auto flash sensors are fairly accurate and the auto advance/rewind is a handy feature for such an affordable camera. Overall picture quality is crisp with my only complaint being some dark backgrounds (although I was doing a lot of shooting in dimly lit rooms).
I would recommend this camera (at a price of $35 including batteries, a roll of film and a strap) for anyone who is going on a vacation and may not want to risk loosing a nicer one. Outdoor daylight pictures come out very nice.
