I have never really been interested in photography of any sorts until recently. Having planned a trip to Kenya however change this. I decided that it was finally time to break the 20 dollar barier and buy a good camera that would last and that I could get some future use out of.
There are many choices for camera's at the price level and the various specs and weird terminology can be quite mind boggling indeed. I have to admit however that I do have a slight advantage over most people in that a friend of mine is an avid photographer and happens to own a photo store as well. Having made up my mind to buy a camera I marched right to his store and told him: "I would like to buy a camera!" in a loud and assertive voice. He then promptly showed me the multitude of camera's in the 150 dollar price range and my eagerness to buy a camera faltered considerably...
Well to make what could end up being a long and boring story short, he highly recommended this camera for its ease of use, great features, and amazing picture quality.
I have to say that I was and still am very impressed with this camera. Despite my clumsiness and just plain ignorance when it comes to taking even the simplest of pictures I still managed to take lots of quite impressive pictures. The zoom is simply outstanding and has a very high quality motor that drives the lense. The functions like I said, couldn't be any easier to use, and the pictures it takes are amazing compared to some pictures i've seen taken with 500 dollar camera's.
The battery has yet to be replaced after well over 17 rolls and 6 months of use. The clamshell like protector for the lense and automatic retracting flash are extremely high quality and very durable. The camera itself is very good at fulfilling its "all weather" claim in my experience and the multi setting flash is a life saver. You can have different modes of flash and you can even turn the flash off. Another amazing function is the ability to do "spot" shots, where you only focus on, say a person in the foreground but the background will be slightly out of focus. This feature was perfect for getting great shots of animals in Kenya!
Well in closing as I think you can probably tell I love this camera! I have had nothing but good things to say about it! I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great camera in ANY price range.
Bad: What's this you say? A bad thing? Yes alas there is one bad thing about this camera...if you are a serious photographer and want a camera where you can change shutter speed and all those other things I don't understand then this is definetly NOT for you.
