futurestar06's Full Review: Alpine CDM-7834 Car CD Player
When I was searching for a car to replace my "temporarily disabled" CRX, it just so happens that I found another CRX for cheap. How convenient. It had high miles, and way too much rust, but I could afford it. I told the person selling it that I would pay what he was asking only if he kept the CD player in it, knowing that I didn't want to transfer all my stereo stuff from broken car to temporary car. He agreed, and I went on my merry way.
I figured it was some cheap-o CD player, seeing as he didn't even want it. But what I got was better than my regular car. The speakers in the car stink, but the sound quality that the CD player produces more than makes up for the lousy speakers. If I ever transfer this player into my now fixed CRX, then it will have more than enough power to run my speaker system, with the help of a tiny amp.
The color scheme is kind of ugly, but the performance makes up for the looks. I'm not all that keen on light blue, but it's not really a big deal. The display is tough to read in the sunlight, but again, most systems are the same way.
The one gripe I do have about the layout of the buttons is the placement of the "settings" button. The folks at Alpine decided to put this button right in between the "up volume" and "down volume" buttons. So if you're driving, and accidentally hit the "settings" and "Up Volume" buttons at the same time, there's a good chance you're pumping up the Bass instead of the Volume. Again, not a big deal, but definitely something I would change.
So all in all I'm pretty psyched about my free CD player. If my Pioneer in my other CRX ever dies, Alpine will definitely be on my list of choices.
