Everyone seems to say that this product has a great remote, but I disagree. In the last few years, remote controls have been getting bigger and bigger. Bigger remotes may make it look like more functions are available, but well designed remotes have fewer buttons with the same degree of functionality. Other than it's size, the remote is good. The buttons are easy to press, and the backlight lights up all of the buttons instead of a select few. The buttons are well organized so it is not hard to get used to.
I bought this product when I decided that a 10 year old Sony receiver needed to be replaced. After looking through receivers at Circuit City, the TX-DS676 not only seemed to offer the most bang for the buck, but also a high degree of durability. The only part that seems a little wobbly is the large knob.
The receiver takes two sets of front speakers, a center speaker, and surround speakers. The speaker outputs are the kind where you screw down a cap. (I think that's how they all are now, but remember I used to have a 10 year old receiver :) ) There are 5 video inputs including one on the front, two of them have outputs. All video input and output sets have S-Video ports. There are also two digital coaxial inputs and two digital optical inputs.
I enjoy the easy to use menus that have entries listed in the order of normal frequency of usage. The on screen menu offers a way to adjust the settings with the remote.
Overall, the DS676 is great value for a mid-range receiver.
