I love this receiver. It has the features you could possibly want in a receiver with the renowned quality of an Onkyo product. I have owned Onkyo receivers for the last 7 years and continue to love them. I had doubts about the 838 because it does not have the inputs to allow for a external decoder such as for DTS. However, this has proven to be immaterial as Dolby Digital has clearly become the standard. The sound is excellent for music as well as for home theater.
I use it to power a pair of NHT Model 2.5i's. The NHT speakers are very inefficient yet the 838 handles them with ease. The sound is warm and accurate. I highly recommend a Onkyo receiver to anybody that is looking for a great receiver that performs as if it cost two to three times the price paid.
