| sibarry's Full Review: Polk Audio CS245 Center Speaker |
After upgrading my RCA 27 inch television to a Hitachi 53 inch digital high definition set, I thought it would be a good idea to go for a separate center channel speaker. I auditioned a number of speakers by various manufacturers and decided on this Polk model for its overall, well balanced, sound.
I have been using this speaker for over a year now and I am very satisfied with it. I recently upgraded my receiver from a Pioneer Dolby pro logic to a Technics Dolby Digital. The sound with my Pioneer was quite good but was only rated at 25 watts for the center channel (and rear surrounds). Needless to say, I had to watch the volume due to the lack of reserve power the receiver had. However, with the new Technics receiver (at 100 watts for the center channel) really allowed this speaker to shine.
Dialog comes through very clear and, even at "movie theater volume", the speaker never strains. The bass response is surprisingly good for the relatively small, dual drivers. High end response is excellent with wide dispersion throughout the listening area, which is great because I have available seating to the extreme left and right of center.
The speaker looks good and appears to be well made. Considering the rather compact size of the cabinet, it has a heavier weight than I would have expected. The rear cabinet has very large binding posts for easy connection, and also has the bass port located there.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the Polk CS245 and would definitely recommend it for anyone in the market for a center channel speaker at a very reasonable price. This is my first speaker by this manufacturer and I am now thinking of upgrading my surround speakers to Polk's, also. My biggest obstacle will be convincing my wife!
