| Butchthebull's Full Review: Pioneer PDV-LC10 7 in. Portable DVD Player |
UPDATE: I have had my great little portable DVD player now for 8 months and the battery allows me to watch a two hour movie plus the better half of another. The detachable battery compartment is a little bulky but it really makes no difference when sitting on your lap. It actually helps giving the player a little lift. I use this player on the train from Long Island to Penn Station and although the screen is only 7 inches (diagonally) it allows you to get a very intimate viewing experience. The screen contains anti-glare and it is fabulous, color is great giving a very film like quality. One of the reasons I still use this player instead of my laptop is the anti-glare screen. The viewing angle is about 270 degrees allowing people sitting next to you to get a descent look. WidescreenReview said this had one of the best pictures in the portable DVD category.
When the headphones are plugged in you get a dynamic listening experience. HINT: the battery also last longer when using headphones. This player allows you to view anamorphic DVDs which is great because the picture get even better. The anamorphic feature will take away the black bars on most movies: Starship Troopers and Disney's Tarzan Collectors Edition being 2 examples. Other movies like The Matrix, Gladiator, Braveheart and Mission: Impossible 2 are also anamorphic but you still get black bars because the aspect ratios differ. The additional lines of resolution provided by this feature are wonderful. The extra detail you see will amaze you. NOTE: non-anamorphic DVDs will be displayed in the center of the screen with black bars on all sides. there is a zoom function but resolution suffers. I still opted for the small screen.
The construction of this model is sturdy. I have been taking this with me on my commute for 8 months and I have not had any problems, it is by no means fragile.
Set up is easy. The onscreen menu will allow you to set the player up to your own liking. You can store the preferences (subtitle, language, audio) for up to 15 movies.
The bottom line is you cannot go wrong with this player. I recently looked on a comparison shopping sight and found that the price dropped $50.
I would recommend this for people who absolutely LOVE movies... what are you still doing here go get one.
