| Adeser's Full Review: JVC XV-501 DVD Player |
I purchased the DVD player for a Christmas present (1999). In June, 2000, the DVD player stopped playing all DVD's correctly. It would play some DVD's and all CD's. All this due to playing certain DVDs. When calling JVC I was told this was due to a computer chip problem and that I would be able to resolve the issue by doing a few things myself (unplugging the unit, pressing a couple of buttons). This was to reset the EEPROM. However, it did not work. The JVC Customer Service rep told me that I should send in the unit to a service location, because they knew how to fix the problem. After 2 months we did receive the unit back and it is now properly functioning.
I would not recommend a JVC unit to others. Even though JVC knew of the problems, they neglected to notify their customers, nor were they willing to take any responsibility for the glitch in their system.
The unit itself looks nice and the buttons on the unit are well placed. However, the remote control needs work. To move around the screen, there is a joystick-like controller instead of buttons, this can be difficult to maneuver.
