| GustavusShaw's Full Review: Philips DVD825AT Player |
Hot from the factory comes the Phillips DVD825AT, sporting enough sizzle and pazazz to thrill any home movie fanatic. After observing the quality of the player at Rex TVs and Appliances, a local audio video store about 30 mins away from where I live, I made a very good decision to purchase it. The sticker price I received it for was 199.99. It turned out to be one of the best purchases pertaining to a DVD player that I ever made.
When I got it home it immediately open the packaging and connected it to my Sony home theater system, which provides 5 ch plus 1 full dolby surround sound. Next I made the necessary connections to my high res Sony television. It was as easy and eating a piece of red velvet cake, only taking a few minutes.
I popped in the Matrix, a spellbinding movie about the programmed world as we see it, and when I first saw the intro blaze across the screen my jaw hit the floor. Previously I had the movie on video cassette, VCR, and even then I thought it was a banging movie. As you know there was no comparison to the quality of DVD to VCR.
Every picture and image was razor sharp and sizzled with astonishing clarity that baked my eyes as they bulged from the sockets. I was hooked and loved every minute of it. I could see everything that I couldn't before on the VCR version.
You could see the very stubble on the actors faces as the camera went in for a close shot or actors unwanted blemishes in startling depth. The fabric that their clothes was made out of was even brought to new light. The leather that they wore now had wrinkles and cracks in the surfaces, even Lawrence Fishburn's puck marked skin stood out, all jokes aside.
The sound was simply spellbinding when played through my surround sound home theater system. Every word down to the slightest sigh was heard and there was no wondering what the actors said. The explosions no longer muffled the dialogue but with every blast the floors shook and the walls resonated violently, like I was right in the middle of the action.
The music and sound effects were sonically superb, offering the user the best all frequency response available, not missing a beat! Every cymbal, musical track, crash, thud, thump, bone cracking blood gushing blow, and sound effect was produced with unbelievable quality.
The technical specs on the DVD player are above standard. It offers 80 disc parental control, which means it can remember up to 80 discs that have parental control activated to prohibit your kids from watching or hearing those unwanted vulgar images and words. It also has dolby full logic surround sound output and control, which enables the user to be submerged in the sound. Silky smooth slow motion and fast forward frame per frame images can be viewed to catch those must see points in the movies.
It has all of your standard video and audio outputs via RCA jacks to cut down on interference for awsome clarity. The dual lazer pickup allows the player to constantly read information stopping all skips and hesitations. The quality of this the Phillips DVD825AT will keep you at the edge of your seat, ears sizzling, and heart pounding with every explosive action scene. I would recommend any one who is looking to make a DVD purchase to try the Phillips DVD825AT.
