My husband and I previously owned a 13" TV/VCR combo that had literally been around the block and was starting to eat all our VHS tapes. At about the same time (as Murphy's Law seems to dictate), our CD player hit the fan and we were out of luck as far as listening to any of our CDs. So we decided, why not make a few smart purchases and get a new (bigger TV), along with a DVD player that can also play CDs? So we began shopping around. At first we were appalled by the prices we saw on some of the DVD players on the market. As we are not video junkies we couldn't justify spending upwards of $600 on a single DVD player!
Then we came across the Phillips DVD825 at Best Buy. It seemed to have everything we needed at a price we could afford. I believe it was $199.00 in the store, but since it was their last one of this model we bought it for significantly less.
As we watched our first movie on it we instantly fell in love. Not only is it less of a hassle not to rewind the tape after watching a movie, but it's also a bonus to be able to skip around to see certain scenes again.
WHAT WE LIKED BEST ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
This particular DVD player had a nice appearance compared to a lot of the other models we looked at in this price range. It didn't feel like it was going to fall apart after opening and shutting it 4 times. And it has proved that it is very sturdy as we use it several times daily for DVD viewing and listening to CDs. The remote is very easy to use and understand. The player also has an 80 disc parental control for all those discs you's rather not have junior watching! It has the standard hookups, along with an S-video out.
We love the extra features that DVDs allow you to have, such as backstage scenes, deleted scenes, commentaries, music videos from the movie, etc...
And the sound...amazing!
WHAT WE LIKED LEAST ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
Absolutely nothing! It was a great all around deal for the price. Another fine Phillips product.
OVERALL
If you just want to start off with a basic, one disc DVD player, no matter what your budget, we would recommend this one to you. It has all the necessities you would find on a more expensive player, but at a "smart" price.
