| PEDIT's Full Review: Pioneer DV-C302D Multi-disc DVD Player |
I've been a "Audiofile" for quite some time. For those who don't know the term, it's purchasing sophisticated audio equipment and spending quality time listening to all types of music. Reason why I purchased the Pioneer is because I already own a Pioneer Elite Receiver and love it so much that I had to stick with Pioneer. Ten years ago if someone told me to purchase a Pioneer I would tell them that they were nuts. So I decided to get a surround sound system and pack up my Sony CD player and sold it to purchase the Pioneer DV-C302D.
I have to disagree with some of the other opinions about how easy the installation was. I personally had a difficult time connecting the 2 Pioneer pieces together. The manual did not fully explain the 5.1 analog vs. digital connection. So I went out and purchased about $100 of extra connectors and hooked the unit up incorrectly. I hooked up both analog and digital, (optical and the 5 wire analog). When I placed my DVD into it the first time, it defaulted to 2 channel (analog). So I placed the call to the audio store and they told me to disconnect the 5 wires (analog) and Wow, what sound difference!
I was so impressed with the clear picture and great surround sound! I've read reviews about the unit and most of them were correct in saying that the remote is somewhat difficult to use because of the small buttons. But I overcame that and each time I use it the more I love it! Contrary to other opinions, I think the 3 DVD carousel is great. I not only purchased this unit for DVD but to use with the multiple DVD/CD's. I went from a 5 CD changer to a 3 DVD/CD changer. I was planning to purchase the Pioneer DV-434 with progressive scan, but my wife and I had to have on with more than one disc playing. Although I would have still preferred the progressive scan from what I read about it.
One thing I thought was somewhat 'dangerous' is the open/close changer drawer on the unit. My unit is behind a glass door and I would think it would harm it if I accidently use the changer drawer open button when the glass door is shut. The unit does look great with the Pioneer Elite VSX-24TX receiver I own. I also own a pair of Dahlquist 10's as my main pair of speakers (simply the best speakers ever made), NHT's subzero as my surround rear speakers, HSU sub-woofer and an Infinity CC-3 center ch. speaker (would like to change that last one though).
