| rgautier's Full Review: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player |
I purchased this product for the feature set, plain and simple. When I was shopping for a DVD player, I wanted a low priced, high-featured unit. With the Toshiba SD-2109, I got it! I got multiple aspect ratio, separated color output, zoom, multi-angle, DTS capability and a brand name that I trusted. I haven't been disappointed in this product at all!
The first day I hooked up my DVD player (last December [1999]), I put in The Matrix and watched the movie through. Then I immediately headed to Best Buy and purchased three more movies to watch. This technology is awesome. Coupled with a TV that can take the separated output, and a DTS-decoding surround-sound system, your home will become your theater of choice! The remote control offers access to almost all of the features in a touch or two. The on-screen setup menus are helpful and descriptive. Racing through a movie at 2x, 8x, 30x, and then stopping it dead to stare at a clear picture is a great digital advantage. But with this player, you'll be able to zoom right up on the picture and look at the UFO that streaks across the sky in "Jaws".
Hooking up this player with the bitstream coax output to my decoder was simple, and I can use my remote control to switch sound systems during the movie if I desire. The remote offers me the ability to change DVD audio choices and subtitle choices during the movie.
You won't get a player with more features at this price range. The only thing lacking from this player is a chassis keypad that will let you use it effectively without the remote. But, since three of my all-in-one remotes can all talk to the DVD player, I'm not afraid of that happening.
