I purchased my Sony rack systsem from Best Buy approximately four years ago. This was my very first good stereo system I had purchased. The reason I purchased the rack system was because I liked the fact that each component was an individual piece, so if something broke down I would not have to take the whole system in or replace the entire system.
I realize that Dolby entertainment is common place today, but when I first purchased this stereo it was the state of the art system. And boy I can remember just listening to that surround sound making the room rumble as the jets flew by while watching "Top Gun" and shivers just running up my back.
My system has a five disc CD carousel, a tuner, dual cassette deck, Dolby surround sound, remote control, with 5 speakers. And I'll tell you - - when nobody is around I love to crank it up, it just sounds GREAT. This was the first Sony product I had ever purchased. I was a little gun shy living in the midwest in steel country and buying a foreign product, but I had read so many good things and heard from friends that Sony Sound was awesome. When I went into the Best Buy store I played with the Pioneer systems, JVC's, and then the Sony systems and I just fell in love with it.
So I swallowed my American pride and purchased my the Japanese made Sony Rack System - and I don't regret it a bit.
I do find the Sony system to be fairly easy to operate, the only problem I have is understanding the remote control, even after reading the manuals - too many buttons that have double functions. But all in all it is a very good system and I think it is worth a listen.
