Pros: audio is warmer than CD audio, picture is sharper than other brands
Cons: it's only consumer level....
The Bottom Line: It works nicely as an audio pass-thru.

| adriel's Full Review: JVC HR-S3600 VCR |
I bought this VCR just to make 100 copies of the senior video for my high school. Now that it's done, I use it as an audio filter: My sound card outputs sound to this VCR, and the VCR re-routes the sound to my speakers. As a result, my music sounds a lot warmer, more analog, and less cold than going straight from the sound card to speakers. Just make sure "audio monitor" is set to "hi-fi" on the vcr menu.
Sound card: Sb live value
speakers: cambridge soundworks 2.1-luckily the SPDIF digital input on it is broken now, otherwise I may not have figured out this VCR pass-thru trick. Now I have the klipsch promedia 2.1.
I wish I had a soundcard with 24-bit DA converters. But since I can't spend $800 on a professional sound card, this is an cheap and easy way to improve the sound of my 16 bit 44.1khz mp3/wav files.
