| brucek1's Full Review: Panasonic PV-9451 VHS VCR |
My family watches a lot of video tapes. You might be able to deduce that by seeing how many movies I've e-pinion'ed. We tend to go through VCR's about one a year, so I feel I have a pretty good idea what works and what doesn't, as far as hard use. The VCR typically plays 20 to 30 two hour movies every week.
I don't know where you shop for electronics, but around Thanksgiving time (two months ago), we purchased the Panasonic 9451 for $99, not the $159.95 mentioned above.
This is a quality VCR. It was very easy to set up, and it's easy to use, even against other VCR's (how hard can it be to push the tape in and press play?) Batteries included! The VCR itself is very very light - this makes it seem flimsy, but don't underestimate it.
The buttons on the front of the VCR are large and easy to read. The picture quality is the best I've seen yet - sharp and clear. When you press Pause, the image is crisp and clear. Just the way it should be.
The remote control has every feature known to man and beast, but it's easy to use. The usual Play, Rewind, Fast Forward and Stop buttons are right under your thumb, and there's another button to turn light up the remote so that you can see what buttons to press when you're in the dark.
If you use your VCR to channel surf, you might not like this remote, as the channel up and down buttons are all the way at the bottom. They're easy enough, just not where I would have put them.
On the downside, there's no "Slow-Motion." The frame-by-frame advance is nice, but it's way too slow to be of any real use. Also, when the movie's playing, the display in the VCR's LED says "Play". Duh! I'd like to see an option to have it show the current time instead, or even a tape counter.
