Without question, this is the best vcr we've ever had. Period. We have it hooked up to our main home theater and this thing just plain out delivers! Where to start?
It is component sized, making it match and fit in nicely with all our other Technics and Panasonic components. It has commercial and movie advance features, which is wonderful when you are recording something off the tv for future playback and you don't want to continually grab the remote to fast forward through commercials and whatnot. It has the Panasonic spatializer circuitry, which makes your sound "fuller" if you are only running through a 2 channel stereo. It has a/v inputs galore. It has automatic head cleaning. The HELP features are very nice.
The picture quality this vcr gives is simply outstanding; I can't say enough about it! Ours is hooked up to a VERY large projection system, so you can detect flaws in playback as they become magnified and very observable. This vcr's playback has been flawless, period, and it has seen constant use since we bought it at the beginning of the year.
The styling of the unit is very pleasing to the eye, and the readouts are bright, clear and easy to see from a distance. This is simply a great purchase and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants the best but doesn't want to pay out the nose for it.. These units are going for under what we paid now, so they are terrific buys.
Cons? None really, except that with the tower style remote, Panasonic makes the volume and channel buttons too small. Other than that, this whole package is flawless.
Addendum to review: Our Panasonic 8662 is not comparable to the Panasonic 9662, which uses the same case but lacks some very important features, like the spatializer circuitry and commercial advance. The current 9668 is comparable.
