| dkozin's Full Review: Sharp VC-H994U VHS VCR |
Sharp VC-H994U costs less than $90. I think it's a good price for a VCR with such an impressive list of features. This VCR has 4 video heads (see description of VCR features at http://www.epinions.com/elec-review-4677-115108C-394C3540-prod1), Hi-Fi stereo sound.
The 19-micron heads provide better picture quality in SLP mode than conventional VCR heads. The 8-event/1-year programmable timer provides more than enough recording time. VC-H994U plays S-VHS tapes (unfortunately at standard resolution).
Other great features include a trilingual on-screen display, a convenient index search for quick access to the beginning of each new program on a tape, and an automatic head cleaner.
Plus, with the universal, illuminated remote control, you get access to all VCR features without getting off the couch and you can control almost all brands of TVs. The only thing I don’t like: you have to point the remote directly to the VCR's front panel. In contrast, my Panasonic remotes (for TV and VCR) work even when pointed in the opposite direction (provided there is a wall there to reflect the IR rays back to the device).
H994U also features shuttle control on the front panel (I like these things!) and front A/V inputs for easy editing; high-speed rewind (1 minute) and EZ setup (automatic tuning).
The picture quality and sound are very good. 4 video heads provide less distortion during still and slow motion modes as well as during rewind/ff.
And the sound approaches CD quality.
VC-H994U is a great value. For such a low price you can't go wrong.
