| phungus's Full Review: Sony SLV-679HF VHS VCR |
A while back I shelled out the cash for a surround sound system and DVD player. After carefully checking out as many different models as possible, I decided that for the price and quality, I would go with Sony. Sony stuff usually costs roughly 10% more than the other brands, but it is WORTH IT!
Now, when I bought this whole surround package, I still had an old Magnavox mono VCR. Do you know how much it stinks to watch a DVD and then watch a video in mono? I decided it was time to get a Hi-Fi VCR and complete my mission to annoy the neighbors with the sounds of Star Wars blasting up and down the road.
After careful consideration, I chose the Sony SLV-50 model. It costs $120. This VCR, like most, was really easy to install, especially since I already had one previously hooked up. It was just a matter of taking the cables from one and plugging them into the other. It took me all of 5 minutes.
This VCR is chock full of features, with one being a backup for the clock. This means that every time your power blips off, you won't have to reset that STUPID BLINKING CLOCK! In fact, as long as your power is off for no longer than an hour, it will save the time settings. How cool is that?
Also, this VCR has a feature called Commercial Pass that functions sort of like an extra fast forward button. If you press it while watching a video you recorded, it will automatically skip past the commercials. I don't record all that much, but this is a cool feature either way. Sooner or later I'll have to give it a test drive.
The remote for this system is narrow and compact, and very easy and straight forward to use. Some of the buttons may be a little small for clumsy people, but I have no problem with it.
All in all, I am very happy with my purchase and expect to get years of wonderful sound and video out of this unit.
